The End of the Helix
Since the upper level of the layout is being converted to Sn3, the Madiosnville Sub now ends south of the CEMEX plant at Westmoreland. The helix has been removed and the area rebuilt to accommodate a couple of new customers at the "end of track" to include a feed industry. The HO layout, underneath the new Sn3 section, has been covered with plastic drop cloths to protect the existing models.
I have ordered the following backdrop from Trackside Scenery for this new area. This is part of the Hickory Hollow series of scenes. While I haven't entirely worked out operations going forward, I'm leaning towards having a turn work the industries from here to Preston Miller and back.
Southern Bay Window Caboose #X249
The Madisonville Sub also added a new caboose to the roster. Marv Hardy built, painted, and lettered this resin kit for me. I bought what I believe is a Wright Trak kit several years ago on ebay. Here it is, along with GP-9 #6268, between assignments in front of the Airtemp Corporation near the Southern Kentucky Transfer. Airtemp was owned by Chrysler Corportation. The plant was eventually sold to General Motors in 1981 and adapted for production of Corvettes.
